Can tinnitus be helped? Doctors will tell you, no. Even the Victorian Tinnitus Association will tell you no! It affects around 20% of the population, to varying degrees. So it is a major problem in our society. Tinnitus is often accompanied by insomnia and sleep disturbances. In my Physiotherapy practice over the last 20 years, I have seen many clients with suffering with this problem. Sometimes clients also complain of vertigo and hearing loss. I have found it most prevalent in middle age, stressed men. Men with high power jobs, whom have little time for relaxation in their lives.
Help is at hand!
I am here to tell you that help is at hand. Having treated many people with tinnitus, including myself! I use a combination of CranioSacral Therapy, nutritional cleansing and yoga. CranioSacral Therapy helps to realign the skull and improve blood flow to the brain and ears. Especially realigning the temporal bones, that sit just inside the ears. Of course prevention is better than cure. Avoiding loud noises and long periods of loud music. Having the best diet possible. Regular yoga and meditation, all help. But if you already have the problem, help is at hand.
Often people’s tinnitus is worse just before bed. This is the quiet time of the day, where the it can be most noticeable. Self medicating with alcohol and sleeping medication will only make the problem worse. Insomnia is a frequent complaint, also. Good sleep habits can reduce the bedtime anxiety. Avoid caffeine and eating late at night. Limit alcohol and increase zinc intake. Avoid wheat products that can cause inflammation in the inner ear. Practise forms of relaxing exercise to help blood pressure in a healthy range.
Hearing loss and tinnitus.
Often tinnitus occurs alongside hearing loss. The tightness in the skull bones, that builds up over our lifetime, can contribute to these problems. Even long periods in the dentists chair can cause strain in the temporal bones, leading to hearing loss, tinnitus and the common TMJ disfunction. Please forward this article to anyone suffering with any of these problems, thank you!
